The "Blackest Night" storyline shares many similarities with Marvel Comics' "Secret Invasion" from 2008. Both stories grew out of a popular, re-launched franchise and said franchise continued to tie-in and support the main mini-series once underway. Whereas "Blackest Night: Green Lantern" focused on the War of Light and the perspective of the other Corps during this zombie apocalypse, "Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps" showcases the Battle for Oa.
The book collects GLC# #39-47 and the action picks up right where "Green Lantern Corps: Emerald Eclipse" left off. Sodam Yat and the Ion entity are presumed KIA in the Daxam system, the rift between the Guardians and their officers has widened, and Oa's defenses have been destroyed, leaving the GLC headquarters vulnerable to attack. The timing, of course, is perfect for the Black Lanterns as their rings descend upon Oa's crypt, raising deceased Lanterns from the dead and forcing Kyle, Guy, and their comrades to prevent the final destruction of the Green Lantern Corps.
The collection isn't as essential to the main narrative as "Blackest Night: Green Lantern" is, but it's perfect for those wanting to seethe brief snippets of Kyle, Guy, and company expanded upon. The collection is also a bittersweet one, as it collects the final stories of Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason, who literally end their tenure on the book with a bang.

The dead have risen, and the Black Lanterns have come for us all. Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps finds Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps battling the resurrected Black Lanterns on Oa, which naturally doesn't end up working out so well. One of the many tie-in's to Geoff Johns' Blackest Night, this one isn't entirely essential reading to get the most out of the storyline, but it is a bit of fun while it lasts though. Peter J. Tomasi provides an entertaining script with some snappy dialogue, and some entertaining moments as well (Guy raging out and becoming a Red Lantern for one). Series artist Patrick Gleason once again provides the art here, which for me personally isn't much to write home about. It's just a personal preference, but I've just never been a fan of Gleason's artwork, and there isn't anything he does here which make me feel any different. That aside though, Blackest Night: Green Lantern Corps is a fun, if nothing essential, segment in the cataclysmic Blackest Night saga.

While this collection isn't as "must-have" for Blackest Night as "Green Lantern" is, it's still a good read. It shows how on Oa, Kyle Rayner and Guy Gardner lead the attacks against the Black Lanterns invading the universe. There is powerful stuff like Killowog facing his former instructor and a great bit where he screams at the Black Lanterns of former Corps members who died, saying it's their own fault they paid the price: "You all thought it would be someone else but it was you! Not my fault! Not...my...fault."
The art is good, showing the wild space battles and a twist of Guy becoming a Red Lantern is short, but fun as is the arrival of the other Lantern Corps for a huge battle. It may not approach the level of the other "BL" collections but still offers a great insight to the massive conflict from the Lanterns' perspective and a wild space saga to boot.
