Product Description
The police can't help you

Former Marine helicopter pilot Jack Morgan runs Private, a renowned investigation company with branches around the globe. It is where you go when you need maximum force and maximum discretion. The secrets of the most influential men and women on the planet come to Jack daily--and his staff of investigators uses the world's most advanced forensic tools to make and break their cases.

The press will destroy you

Jack is already deep into the investigation of a multi-million dollar NFL gambling scandal and the unsolved slayings of 18 schoolgirls when he learns of a horrific murder close to home: his best friend's wife, Jack's former lover, has been killed. It nearly pushes him over the edge. Instead, Jack pushes back and devotes all of Private's resources to tracking down her killer.

Only one place to turn: Private

But Jack doesn't have to play by the rules. As he closes in on the killer and chooses between revenge and justice, Morgan has to navigate a workplace love affair that threatens to blow the roof off his plans. With a plot that moves at death-defying speeds, Private is James Patterson sleekest, most exciting thriller ever.

2 out of 5 stars Message overlooked by reviewers   September 4, 2010
This is not a deep read... Back in the day, like so many reviewers, I would RUN to the bookstore to get JP's latest "hot off the press." These days...we are disappointed. Seems to lack detail, depth, the vocabulary too elementary... TWO authors should be able to come up with better words than "ginormous"! However, one should not overlook the important issue (and very possible danger) concerning and linking texting and teen abduction. Parents may want to read and discuss verifying who is texting before ever going to meet up with a friend "in crisis." No one has mentioned this...
If you are new to James Patterson, try Pop Goes The Weasel, Along Came A Spider or Kiss The Girls, for example of why we are disappointed with mezza-mezz stories of late! Must plug the amazing Patricia Cornwell's latest : Scarpetta and Harlan Coben's Hold Tight for anyone looking for an engrossing thrill!

1 out of 5 stars A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME   September 4, 2010

I read the first part of this book in the hospital and thought maybe the drugs were affecting my senses. But no, when I got out and continued reading this disjointed mess of characters and events, the drugs actually helped! This is my last Patterson. He is not selling good mysteries, he is selling his name and I won't be a sucker anymore.

2 out of 5 stars Meh.. library rental at best   September 4, 2010

First of all I have to say that I LOVE the Alex Cross books by Patterson, I'm up to the 11th and even though this was a bit wishy-washy I still enjoyed it, however it's not as tight and gripping as one might wish. This does however want me to shake Patterson and yell at him a bit, instead of having so many books out, take the time, nurture the story, write it alone, make it Alex Cross good, this was simply okay and nothing I would recommend to anyone, sorry to say. I felt more like a set up for a series than an actual book that had to survive on it's own merits.

The quote on the cover "Murder most beautiful" had nothing to do with the book, I mean nothing, one gorgeous ( or they tell us) chick gets executed while it turns out she has a checkered past, while girls all over the city are disappearing as random killing accelerate, two brothers caught in a feud, a love interest that can go either way, yawn.. sorry James, I like your solo stuff but this isn't even worthy of a proper review, please try harder next time, don't be a sell out, don't write with these whacko authors I never heard of, take your time and do your best! For a library rental this was okay, gripping in place but if I plopped down a twenty for a hardcover I'd end up feeling pissed, that's for sure, I'd rather get a dozen scallops and make dinner...

Great author, great book. Have been reading Patterson for years. I was a library assistant for 15 years and know a good author when I read one!
